Salesforce Advanced Administrator: how to prepare

Complex security, automation, sales and service features, analytics and change management: the jump from Administrator to Advanced Administrator.

Advanced Administrator is for admins who already run an org confidently. The topics overlap with Administrator, but the questions are harder: several features could work, and you have to choose the one that scales, stays secure and is easiest to maintain.

What changes from Administrator

Expect more "what is the best way" questions and fewer "where is the setting" questions. You need to know not just what a feature does, but its limits and trade-offs.

What to learn

Security and access

Permission set groups, delegated administration, sharing in more complex hierarchies, and auditing who changed what. Know how to give people exactly the access they need without cloning profiles.

Automation

More complex Flow design, including when to use record-triggered, scheduled and screen flows, and how to keep automation from colliding. Approval processes with several steps.

Sales and service

Features larger teams rely on, such as forecasting, territory management, entitlements and routing work to service agents. Focus on which business problem each one solves.

Data and analytics

Custom report types, joined reports, dashboards that show each viewer their own data, and keeping data clean at scale.

Platform

Sandbox strategy, moving changes safely to production, and deciding when an AppExchange app beats building.

How to study it

  • Revisit your Administrator gaps first. Advanced questions assume the basics are solid.
  • Compare options side by side. For each topic, write down two ways to meet a requirement and why you would pick one.
  • Use real work. If you run an org, map each topic to something you have configured or would like to improve.

How Arkton helps

The Advanced Administrator course has 17 lessons with hands-on labs and exam preparation, about 16 hours of material, scheduled around your exam date in My Plan. From here, many admins move towards Sharing and Visibility and the other architect designer certifications.
